About this wine

Pur Avize 2018 is a terroir-driven cuvée sourced exclusively from three Chardonnay parcels – Les Avats, Les Maladries and Les Chapelles – encircling the Grand Cru village of Avize. Vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel with full malolactic, the wine then spends more than five years ageing under cork before disgorgement, with a very low extra-brut dosage of about 3.3 g/L. The nose is intense and refined, combining smoky almond, pear, citrus, nutmeg and white flowers. On the palate it has excellent concentration and drive: a creamy, chalk-laced texture, dense mid-palate fruit and a distinctly saline, mouth-watering finish. This is a serious, site-specific Blanc de Blancs that will shine with refined seafood or simply as a contemplative glass for Champagne geeks.

James Suckling describes the 2018 Pur Avize as a concentrated and powerful Champagne with aromas of smoked almonds, pears, nutmeg and white flowers, a dry, mineral palate with remarkable texture and density, and a slightly saline, long finish.

Pale, bright gold with a fine, energetic bead.

Smoked almond, pear, lemon zest, white flowers, subtle brioche.

On the palate

Creamy yet tightly wound, chalk-mineral core, long saline finish.
