About this wine

Roscaleto is Bussolo’s flagship Barbera, sourced from low-yielding vines in La Morra and treated with the same care as his Barolos. The 2021 is deeply coloured and packed with ripe cherry, blackberry and blood orange, layered with sweet spice, balsamic herbs and a touch of peppery oak. It’s a powerful, full-bodied Barbera, but the acidity keeps it vertical and refreshing rather than heavy. Long élevage in small barrels adds polish and complexity without overwhelming the fruit. This is a Barbera to treat like a serious Barolo alternative at the table and in the cellar, with the capacity to age for well over a decade.

Tasting Note

Rich, deep and full-bodied with an “amazing red-violet colour”; nose of cherries, orange peel, balsamic herbs and pepper, framed by well-integrated oak. The palate is concentrated and powerful yet balanced by vibrant acidity, with long, spicy, fruit-driven length.

In the glass

Deep, almost opaque violet-ruby.

In the nose

Black cherry, blood orange, balsamic herbs, sweet spice.

On the palate

Full, powerful Barbera with vibrant acidity and long, spicy finish.

Cesare Bussolo

A protégé of Roberto Voerzio, Cesare Bussolo is one of La Morra’s rising stars, crafting finely etched Barolo and Barbera. Tiny yields, careful selection and a gentle extraction aim to highlight purity of fruit, florality and silky tannins rather than brute power. His wines feel contemporary yet deeply rooted in traditional Piedmont terroir.
