About this wine

Charles Lachaux sources organically grown Pinot Noir from the Les Valozières climat, just below the Corton Grands Crus, and applies the same low-intervention, whole-cluster methods he uses at Arnoux-Lachaux. The resulting wine is deeply aromatic – dark cherry, blackberries, spice and rose – yet texturally fine and sinewy rather than chunky. 2023 looks to be a ripe but balanced vintage here, with plenty of fruit concentration, lively acidity and very refined tannins. Production is tiny and allocation-driven.

Tasting Note

Critic descriptions of Les Valozières highlight vibrant dark berry fruit, floral lift and whole-bunch spice, with a medium-bodied, silky palate, fresh acidity and a long, mineral-tinged finish.

In the glass

Medium ruby, slightly deeper at the core.

In the nose

Black cherry, blackberry, peony, sandalwood and subtle stem spice.

On the palate

Silky and lithe, with juicy dark fruit, fine-grained tannins and a long, chalk-dust finish.

Charles Lachaux

Separate from the family domaine, Charles Lachaux’s négoce label explores tiny lots from top Burgundian sites with an experimental edge. High stems, whole clusters and very low intervention yield wines that are aromatic, textured and uniquely expressive. They are produced in minuscule quantities and are highly coveted by Burgundy enthusiasts.

Vinification

Certified-organic Pinot Noir fermented as whole bunches with indigenous yeasts, short maceration, then aged around a year in Burgundy barrels with only 10–30% new oak before an earlier bottling than the domaine wines.
