About this wine

Sourced from a tiny, historic vineyard of ungrafted Albariño vines planted around 1840, Finca Genoveva sits on poor, granitic soils a stone’s throw from the Atlantic. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and aged in large, neutral oak on the lees, gaining texture and complexity without losing its saline drive. The 2023 vintage shows intense grapefruit, lime and white peach aromatics, layered with smoke, oyster shell and a touch of toast. It’s concentrated yet laser-focused, with great ageing capacity.

Tasting Note

WA describes 2023 Genoveva as one of the top Albariños of the vintage: dense but not heavy, with incisive acidity, layered citrus and stone fruit and a very long, salty, mouth-coating finish.

In the glass

Medium straw-gold with great clarity.

In the nose

Grapefruit, lime, white peach, sea spray, smoke and a subtle toasty, nutty hint.

On the palate

Concentrated and textural, with layered citrus and stone fruit, powerful acidity and a long, saline, slightly smoky finish.

Forjas del Salné

Forjas del Salnés, founded by Rodrigo Méndez with help from Raúl Pérez, focuses on old-vine Albariño and traditional red varieties in the Salnés valley. Many vines are ungrafted and close to the Atlantic, yielding intensely saline, textural whites and delicate, herbal reds. The style is artisanal and low-intervention, highlighting the coastal, granite terroirs of classic Rías Baixas.
