About this wine

Amon-Ra is Ben Glaetzer’s flagship Barossa Shiraz, drawn from 50–130-year-old vines in the northern Ebenezer sector. The 2012 is very deep purple-black, bursting with cassis, blackberry compote and licorice layered with clove, allspice, dark chocolate and cured meat complexity. The palate is a “beast” of a wine: dense, richly fruited and powerfully structured, yet kept in check by crisp acidity and grainy, ripe tannins that drive a long, persistent finish.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate describes the 2012 Amon-Ra as extremely deep and intense, with blackcurrant cordial, blackberry compote and licorice aromas plus spice, chocolate and savory notes; the full-bodied palate is packed with black fruit and baking spices, framed by firm, grainy tannins and vibrant acidity, finishing with outstanding length.

In the glass

Very deep purple-black with viscous legs.

In the nose

Blackcurrant, blackberry and licorice with clove, chocolate, smoked meat and espresso.

On the palate

Massive yet balanced, with saturated black fruit, firm but polished tannins and a long, spicy, savoury finish.

Glaetzer

Glaetzer is a family estate in the Barossa Valley, best known for intensely flavoured Shiraz and Shiraz-based blends like Amon-Ra. Fruit from ancient, low-yielding vines delivers incredible depth, with dark fruit, spice and a plush but structured palate. These are powerful, modern Australian reds that remain surprisingly balanced.
