About this wine

Clos des Porrets St-Georges is a walled 3-hectare monopole just south of the village, on stony clay-limestone soils that give powerful yet detailed wines. Domaine Henri Gouges farms it traditionally and vinifies with plenty of whole berries, producing a firmly structured Pinot with black cherry, redcurrant and plum wrapped in notes of liquorice, cured meat and sous-bois. The tannins are abundant but ripe, and with time in bottle the wine gains truffle, game and earthy complexity. It’s a benchmark, old-school Nuits for the cellar.

Tasting Note

Burghound (typical note for the cuvée): often highlights ripe dark berry fruit, spice and earth on the nose, with a dense, serious, moderately rustic palate framed by chewy tannins and very good length.

In the glass

Deep ruby with garnet reflections.

In the nose

Black cherry, blackberry, cured meat, earth, spice and a touch of violets.

On the palate

Fuller-bodied for Burgundy, with dense fruit, firm tannins, savory earth and a long, slightly rustic finish.

Domaine Henri Gouges

Domaine Henri Gouges is a historic reference of Nuits-Saint-Georges, known for serious, structured reds built for the long haul. Old vines and low-intervention winemaking deliver wines with firm tannins, savoury complexity and a strong sense of place. In recent years there’s been a touch more finesse, but the estate remains a bastion of traditional, age-worthy Burgundy.
