About this wine

Les Enseignères is a celebrated Puligny lieu-dit directly under Bâtard and Bienvenues; Le Moine’s micro-production combines low yields, long lees ageing and thoughtful oak. The 2009 shows ripe stone fruits and citrus oil layered with toasted almond, brioche, smoke and a strong chalky underpinning. The texture is broad and almost creamy yet lifted by fresh acidity and a tight, mineral core. With bottle age, the wine develops honey, hazelnut and dried chamomile complexity.

Tasting Note

Critic summaries (for nearby vintages) emphasize ripe peach and citrus, integrated oak, great mid-palate weight and a long, saline, mineral finish characteristic of top Puligny.

In the glass

Medium to deep gold with slow legs.

In the nose

Ripe peach, lemon oil, toasted nuts, smoke and crushed chalk.

On the palate

Full, layered and silky, with generous fruit, integrated oak, bright acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish.

Lucien Le Moine

Lucien Le Moine is a micro-négociant specialising exclusively in top-tier premier and grand cru Burgundy from purchased grapes and must. Production is tiny, and élevage is long and meticulous, yielding dense, powerful wines with serious concentration and layered complexity. They’re built for cellaring and appeal to collectors who enjoy a more intense, baroque expression of Burgundy crus.
