About this wine

La Coma d’en Romeu is a 1.5-ha amphitheatre of 75-year-old bush-vine Garnatxa at ~350 m, farmed biodynamically on decomposed slate. Grapes are picked by hand, fermented with whole clusters and indigenous yeasts, then matured around 16 months in used French oak. The 2022 balances ripe black and red forest fruit with peach, aromatic herbs, smoked meats and liquorice, all wrapped around a core of llicorella-driven salinity. It is powerful yet vertical and nuanced – quintessential high-end Priorat Garnacha with huge ageing potential.

Tasting Note

Deeply coloured, the 2022 shows ripe black cherry and plum with peach, wild herbs, hints of smoky bacon, ink and licorice; the palate is medium to full-bodied with abundant, slightly dusty tannins and marked personality and energy.

In the glass

Dense ruby-purple.

In the nose

Black cherry, blackberry, ripe peach skin, rosemary, smoke, cured meat and graphite.

On the palate

Concentrated yet finely etched; layers of dark fruit, spice and savoury notes, with firm but polished tannins and a long, mineral, slate-inflected finish.

Familia Nin Ortiz

Família Nin-Ortiz farms steep, high-altitude vineyards in Priorat biodynamically, focusing on old-vine Garnacha and Carinyena. The wines are intense yet incredibly detailed, with pure fruit, wild herbs and a striking mineral core from their slate and clay soils. They are among the most refined, terroir-driven expressions of modern Priorat.
