About this wine

Clos de Saint-Jean is a warm, hillside site in Santenay that gives wines of juicy fruit and a certain lifted aromatics. Philippe Colin’s 2023 bottling (following the style of recent vintages) shows red cherry and raspberry with floral notes, gentle spice and a touch of earth. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky attack, moderate structure and a refreshing, lightly savoury finish. It’s an inviting red Burgundy for earlier drinking over 4–8 years, ideal with charcuterie, roast chicken, pork or mushroom dishes.

Tasting Note

Morris generally finds Colin’s Santenay Clos de Saint-Jean to be attractively red-fruited and floral with supple tannins and good freshness, a wine for pleasure rather than austerity.

In the glass

Bright, medium ruby.

In the nose

Red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, light spice and a touch of underbrush.

On the palate

Silky and juicy with pure red fruit, fine tannins and a fresh, slightly savoury, easy-drinking finish.

Philippe Colin

Philippe Colin’s estate, born from the division of the Colin-Deléger domaine, focuses on Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay and neighbouring villages. His whites are clean, modern and precise, with well-judged use of oak and an emphasis on freshness and aromatic clarity. From Bourgogne Chardonnay to premier crus and the rare Chevalier-Montrachet, the wines offer a polished, accessible expression of Côte de Beaune terroir with enough depth to reward a few years in the cellar.
