About this wine

Les Cochenes is a single-parcel Champagne (largely Meunier) vinified and aged in oak, with minimal intervention and low or zero dosage. It shows ripe orchard and stone fruit, citrus peel, herbs and savoury spice, overlaid with a distinctive oxidative/nutty and saline profile. The palate is dense and structured, with fine, creamy mousse, vivid acidity and a long, savoury, chalk-mineral finish – very gastronomic and more “vin” than “bulle”.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate describes Les Cochenes as richly textured and concentrated, with pear, citrus and mirabelle notes, hints of pastry and spice from oak, impressive depth and a precise, salty finish; merchants echo the combination of power and finesse.

In the glass

Mid-gold with a fine, persistent bead.

In the nose

Ripe apple and yellow plum with citrus zest, herbs, toasted nuts and a touch of smoke/spice.

On the palate

Intense and vinous, with concentrated fruit, savoury, lightly oxidative complexity, fine mousse and a long, chalky, saline finish.

A. Lamblot

Aurélien Lamblot is one of the new-wave grower names in Champagne, working small parcels with a decidedly artisanal mindset. Organic-leaning farming, fermentations in oak and a minimalist approach in the cellar yield intensely characterful wines that are vinous, textural and often quite dry. His parcellaire cuvées, including Les Cochenes and Intuition, are sought after for their combination of energy, complexity and distinct terroir voice.
