About this wine

Aalto PS (“Pagos Seleccionados”) is the flagship cuvée of Aalto, sourced from very old Tinto Fino vines (many 60–90 years old) in top plots around La Horra and La Aguilera. It’s a full-bodied, concentrated Ribera with an opaque purple colour, layered aromas of blackberry, cassis and plum, lifted by violet and graphite notes and wrapped in fine, sweet oak spice. The palate is powerful yet refined, with masses of dark fruit, ripe but firm tannins and vibrant acidity that drives a long, savoury finish. Built for the cellar but already hugely impressive at the table.

Wine Advocate & James Suckling: super-ripe black fruit, graphite and spice with a broad, powerful palate, very fine tannins and a long, layered, polished finish.

In the glass

Almost opaque purple-black with thick, slow tears.

In the nose

Intense blackberries and cassis with plum, violets, graphite and refined vanilla/toast from the oak.

On the palate

Full-bodied, dense and concentrated; ripe dark fruit core, polished tannins, lively acidity and a very long, spicy, mineral-tinged finish.

Aalto

Aalto is a high-profile Ribera del Duero project co-founded by Mariano García, ex-Vega Sicilia winemaker. Old-vine Tempranillo from top sites is vinified into deep, polished wines with rich dark fruit, spice and velvety tannins. Both the main cuvée and PS bottling are modern in feel but retain a strong sense of Ribera identity.
