About this wine

Jarrarte 2020 is sourced from 40-year-old Tempranillo vines on clay-limestone slopes around San Vicente de la Sonsierra. It combines vibrant black and red fruit with gentle spice, earth and a subtle rustic edge that calls for food. Structure is medium-full, with ripe tannins and a mellow acidity that makes it approachable now but capable of a few more years’ evolution. A classic, low-intervention Rioja tinto from one of the region’s most respected growers.

Abel Mendoza

Abel Mendoza is a small, cult grower in Rioja Alavesa, especially admired for his single-variety whites and pure, site-driven reds. With his partner Maite, he farms old vines organically and vinifies with minimal intervention, highlighting the nuances of Rioja’s native grapes. The wines are detailed, characterful and quietly profound.
