About this wine

This is Abel Mendoza’s traditional cosechero wine, made by carbonic maceration from biodynamically farmed old vines in San Vicente. Expect exuberant raspberry and cherry fruit, hints of fennel and violets and a juicy, gluggable palate with fine tannins and a light bitter twist that keeps it moreish. It’s Rioja in its most festive, unadorned form, meant to be enjoyed slightly chilled and young.

Abel Mendoza

Abel Mendoza is a small, cult grower in Rioja Alavesa, especially admired for his single-variety whites and pure, site-driven reds. With his partner Maite, he farms old vines organically and vinifies with minimal intervention, highlighting the nuances of Rioja’s native grapes. The wines are detailed, characterful and quietly profound.
