About this wine

Almaviva 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of this flagship Chilean estate. The blend is 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Carmenère, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, from a particularly dry vintage that produced small, concentrated berries. The wine shows pure cassis, blueberry and raspberry fruit wrapped in notes of cedar, tobacco, exotic spices and fresh herbs, with impressive depth and a seamless, velvety texture. The finish is long and precise, confirming Almaviva’s status as one of the great Cabernet-based wines of the Southern Hemisphere.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate describes the 2020 Almaviva as a powerful but balanced wine, with intense black and blue fruit, notes of herbs and spices, fine-grained tannins and very good freshness, closer in style to the 2019 than the 2018 and built for long ageing.

In the glass

Deep ruby-purple with a narrow bright rim.

In the nose

Cassis, blueberry and blackberry with cedar, tobacco, graphite and dried herbs.

On the palate

Full-bodied, polished and layered, with ripe dark fruit, fine tannins, vibrant acidity and a very long, dry, savoury finish.

Vina almaviva

Almaviva is a prestigious joint venture between Concha y Toro and Château Mouton Rothschild, producing a single Bordeaux-style red from Puente Alto. The wine marries Chilean high-altitude Cabernet fruit with French know-how, resulting in a polished, age-worthy blend. It’s renowned for its fine tannins, aromatic complexity and elegant, almost Médoc-like structure.
