About this wine

ÀN is crafted from very old Callet (the backbone) with smaller amounts of Manto Negro and Fogoneu, grown on poor, stony soils and farmed with a strong focus on low yields and biodiversity. After hand harvesting and careful selection, the wine is fermented and then aged around 14–18 months in French oak barrels, a mix of new and used, to frame but not dominate the fruit. The 2022 shows fine red-fruit concentration, Mediterranean spice, tobacco and subtle balsamic notes, with refined tannins and fresh acidity. It’s a benchmark for Mallorcan fine red and ages gracefully in bottle.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate describes a medium-bodied, silky red with cherry and red-berry fruit, hints of dried herbs, tobacco and spice, and a long, refined finish supported by well-integrated oak.

In the glass

Bright, medium-deep cherry-red with a slight purple rim.

In the nose

Red cherry and raspberry, violets, Mediterranean herbs, sweet spice, tobacco leaf and a touch of cedar.

On the palate

Medium-plus in body, silky and fresh, with succulent red fruit, spice, fine chalky tannins and a long, elegant, slightly balsamic finish.

Ànima Negra

Ànima Negra works mostly with indigenous Mallorcan varieties like Callet, producing uniquely Mediterranean wines from limestone and clay soils. Low yields, organic farming and a gentle cellar touch yield reds that are pale in colour but intense in flavour, with red fruit, spice and a saline, island character. They’re cult bottles for people who love distinctive terroirs.
