About this wine

Rosso di Valtellina is ArPePe’s most immediate expression of Chiavennasca, the local name for Nebbiolo grown on Valtellina’s dramatic stone terraces. Long but gentle maceration and ageing in large neutral casks preserve an almost Burgundian finesse: pale garnet colour, perfumed notes of cherry, rosehip and warm earth, and a saline, stony edge from the granitic soils. The palate is medium-bodied, supple and graceful, with ripe yet fine tannins and a persistent, floral finish. It’s a benchmark for “mountain Nebbiolo” and a superb food wine.

Tasting Note

Producer notes: brilliant garnet; an inviting nose of small red fruits, cherry, rosehip and warm earth; on the palate, classic, balanced Nebbiolo with good body, supple tannins and long fruity-floral persistence.

In the glass

Transparent garnet with orange nuances.

In the nose

Cherry, small red berries, rose, hints of cola and warm earth.

On the palate

Fine-boned and savoury, with juicy red fruit, saline minerality and silky, persistent tannins.

Arpepe

Ar.Pe.Pe. is the reference producer in Valtellina, crafting Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) from steep, terraced vineyards high in the Alps. Long, gentle macerations and extended aging in large casks yield wines of delicacy, perfume and subtle power. They’re Burgundy-like in transparency, with beautiful acidity and mineral length.
