About this wine

El Escolladero 2023 is sourced from less than a hectare of high-altitude vines in Ábalos, on poor limestone soils. A blend dominated by Tempranillo with a dash of Graciano, it shows perfumed red and black fruits, rose petal, chalk, subtle spice and a saline edge. The texture is silky but firm, with layered fruit, precise acidity and very fine tannins – a Rioja conceived in the idiom of top village Burgundy, made in tiny quantities.

Tasting Note

Very fine-boned and perfumed, with ripe red and black fruit, graphite and spice; palate is deep yet weightless with polished tannins and a vibrant, mineral finish.

In the glass

Medium-deep ruby with garnet highlights.

In the nose

Wild strawberry, black cherry, rose, graphite, sweet spice and a hint of underbrush.

On the palate

Silky entry, layered red and black fruit, ultra-fine tannins and a long, chalk-inflected finish.

Artuke

Artuke is a family estate in Baños de Ebro that helped define the new wave of village and single-vineyard Rioja. Working organically, often with whole clusters, they make fragrant, medium-bodied Tempranillo wines that emphasise finesse, freshness and sense of place over oak and heaviness. From the village Artuke to terroir cuvées like Paso Las Mañas, the range is consistently vibrant and precise.
