About this wine

Mosconi is a south-facing, limestone-clay vineyard in Monforte that typically gives Barolo of greater structure and intensity than Cannubi. In 2019, low yields and textbook conditions produced a wine packed with black cherry, plum, liquorice, menthol and ferrous minerality. The tannins are abundant but beautifully ripened and polished by élevage in small French oak barrels for around two years. This is a cellar-worthy Barolo that will reward a decade or more of patience.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate (98/100) notes the 2019 Mosconi’s deep black-fruited profile, balsamic and iron tones, layered structure and a finish that seems to go on indefinitely.

In the glass

Deep garnet-ruby, almost opaque at the core.

In the nose

Black cherry, blackberry and plum with liquorice, menthol, tar and a distinct ferrous, rocky note.

On the palate

Full-bodied, firm and vertical, with concentrated dark fruit, powerful but refined tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish.

E. Pira & Figli (Chiara Boschis)

E. Pira & Figli, under Chiara Boschis, is one of Barolo’s most respected producers, blending traditional terroir expression with modern precision. Based in Cannubi, the estate produces Nebbiolo wines of fragrance, balance and depth, with fine tannins and layered complexity. Chiara Boschis has been instrumental in shaping a more elegant, refined style of contemporary Barolo.
