About this wine

Bimbache Blanco 2023 is a field-blend style white combining Vijariego Blanco, Listán Blanco, Malvasía, Marmajuelo, Verdello and Forastera from different plots, altitudes and exposures across the remote island of El Hierro. Fermented with minimal intervention and aged about six months in French oak barrels, it aims to express the island’s volcanic, Atlantic character: ripe but not heavy fruit, savoury spice, florals and pronounced salinity. The 2023 has drawn attention for its intensity and originality, often compared to ouillé Jura whites thanks to its combination of ripeness, freshness and a faintly bitter, spicy edge.

Tasting Note

Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate) describes the 2023 as golden-coloured with a ripe nose of stone fruit and spice, 14% alcohol yet excellent freshness and poise, and a palate that recalls some Jura whites, with savoury spiciness and a slightly bitter twist on the long finish.

In the glass

Deep straw to light gold with visible texture.

In the nose

Ripe peach and apricot, baked apple, citrus peel, chamomile, spice and a distinct smoky-volcanic and saline note.

On the palate

Concentrated and textural yet fresh, with ripe stone fruit, savoury spice, marked salinity, vibrant acidity and a long, slightly bitter, mouth-watering finish.

Bimbache

Bimbache Vinícola is a tiny, cutting-edge project on El Hierro, the smallest and wildest of the Canary Islands. Founded in 2018 by Rayco Fernández, it revives old mixed vineyards of native varieties on rugged volcanic slopes, using organic, low-intervention methods. The wines – often field blends – are salty, aromatic and full of Atlantic energy, showcasing one of Spain’s most remote terroirs.
