About this wine

Imperial is the estate’s flagship Gran Reserva, blending mainly Xarel·lo and Macabeu with small portions of other local white varieties from certified organic and biodynamic vineyards. After primary fermentation (partly in steel, partly in large neutral oak), it undergoes second fermentation in bottle and is aged for several years on its lees before disgorgement and a moderate brut dosage. The wine combines ripe citrus and stone-fruit generosity with autolytic complexity – brioche, toasted nuts and subtle spice – and the distinctly saline, mineral backbone characteristic of Gramona’s terroirs. It’s designed to work from aperitif through to the table.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate-aligned notes describe a creamy, finely textured palate with lemon and peach fruit, brioche and almond tones, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury, chalk-tinged finish.

In the glass

Bright straw-gold with fine, persistent bubbles.

In the nose

Lemon zest, white peach, baked brioche, toasted almond and a touch of white flowers and chalk.

On the palate

Medium-bodied, creamy and precise, with ripe citrus and stone fruit, autolytic pastry notes, lively acidity and a long, saline, gently nutty finish.

Gramona

Gramona is a reference house for long-aged traditional-method sparkling wines from Penedès. Organic and biodynamic vineyards, very long lees aging and low dosage give textured, complex bubbles that can rival serious Champagne. Their style is gastronomic and refined, with balance between ripe Mediterranean fruit and chalky, savoury depth.
