About this wine

Under winemaker Grégory Patriat, Jean-Claude Boisset has become one of Burgundy’s most serious “large” domaines, working with low yields and minimalist cellar work. Les Grèves is one of Beaune’s best-situated climats, on well-drained limestone and marl, and the 2021 shows redcurrant, cherry and raspberry with hints of spice and undergrowth. The wine is medium-bodied with bright, cool-year acidity, fine tannins and good length – a very classical expression of Beaune.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate’s note for the 2021 Beaune Les Grèves highlights aromas of red and blackcurrants, cherries and peppery spice; the palate is described as medium-bodied and fleshy but nicely framed by powdery tannins and a precise finish.

In the glass

Medium ruby.

In the nose

Redcurrant, cherry, raspberry, pepper, gentle oak spice.

On the palate

Supple red fruit, lively acidity, fine tannic grip and a savoury, persistent finish.

Jean-Claude Boisset

Jean-Claude Boisset’s revamped range focuses on terroir-transparent Burgundies vinified with minimal intervention and whole bunches where appropriate. The wines feel lithe and pure, with carefully managed oak and a focus on aromatic definition. It’s a large house with a surprisingly artisanal, site-driven philosophy.
