About this wine

R.D., for “Recently Disgorged,” is one of Champagne’s most distinctive prestige cuvées: an old vintage held for many years on lees and disgorged late to preserve freshness. The 2004 is based on La Grande Année 2004, made from 66% Pinot Noir and 34% Chardonnay from 16 crus, and fermented entirely in oak barrels. Bollinger’s technical material states that it spent nearly 13 years on lees before disgorgement and was released as Extra Brut at 3 g/L dosage. The result is a broad, autolytic, serious Champagne for lobster, turbot, Bresse chicken and truffle.

Tasting Note

Critics describe a Champagne of honey, quince, minerality, exceptional freshness and old-vintage aromatic complexity.

In the glass

Deep golden with a very fine, persistent mousse.

In the nose

Honey, quince, toast, preserved citrus and autolytic depth.

On the palate

Broad and intense, with creamy depth, savoury complexity, vibrant acidity and a long vinous finish.

Bollinger

Bollinger is one of Champagne’s most iconic houses, renowned for its rich, Pinot Noir–dominated style. Fermentation in oak barrels and extended lees aging define the house signature, bringing depth, structure and notes of brioche, spice and roasted nuts. Bollinger Champagnes are powerful, age-worthy and unmistakably distinctive.
