About this wine

Pur Mesnil 2018 showcases the singular personality of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, sourced from three chalk-rich parcels – Le Tilleul, Les Zailleux and Les Hautes Mottes. Like Pur Avize, it is vinified in stainless steel with malolactic fermentation and aged several years on lees before disgorgement, with a very moderate dosage around 3.3 g/L. The bouquet is pure and lifted: white fruits, lemon zest, white flowers, ripe orchard fruit and a delicate menthol note. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping yet extremely precise, with bright acidity, pinpoint bubbles and a long, mineral, almost ethereal finish. Compared with Pur Avize, Pur Mesnil shows more flesh and precision, and it will only gain in complexity with time in bottle.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate calls the 2018 Pur Mesnil one of the estate’s standout wines, with a pure bouquet of white fruit, lemon oil, flowers, ripe orchard fruit and menthol, a satiny, medium-to-full palate, bright acidity, pinpoint mousse and a long, mineral, ethereal finish.

In the glass

Pale straw with green highlights, very fine, persistent mousse.

In the nose

Grapefruit, lemon zest, white flowers, orchard fruit, hint of menthol.

On the palate

Satiny yet taut, vivid acidity, chalky and very long, with a saline snap.

Franck Bonville

A top grower in the Côte des Blancs specializing in Chardonnay from Avize, Oger, and Le Mesnil. Franck Bonville produces precise, chalk-driven Champagnes with tension, citrus lift, and refined mousse. Long lees aging adds depth without losing freshness. Clean, elegant, and consistently excellent across the range.
