About this wine

Chiroubles is the highest of the Beaujolais crus, and Bouland’s Chatenay parcel sits on steep, poor, pure-granite soils above Fleurie and Villié-Morgon. The 2024 combines bright red cherry and wild strawberry fruit with violets and a touch of licorice, capturing both freshness and depth. The palate is crunchy and gourmand yet round, with fine tannins and a supple, gliding finish that makes the bottle disappear fast. This is a brilliant option for those who like Burgundian elegance at Beaujolais prices. Serve slightly chilled with charcuterie, roast chicken or a simple bistro steak.

Tasting Note

Producer notes describe the wine with an open nose of red fruits (cherry, strawberry), floral notes and a touch of licorice, leading to a crunchy, juicy, round palate with plenty of charm and finesse. The fruit is bright and high-pitched, with fresh acidity and very silky tannins that make it approachable young but capable of a few years’ development.

In the glass

Bright ruby, slight purple rim

In the nose

Red berries, violet, licorice

On the palate

Crunchy, silky, juicy

Daniel Bouland

A reference point for serious Beaujolais. Daniel Bouland crafts deeply fruited, structured Gamay from excellent old-vine parcels in Morgon and Chiroubles. Fermentation is traditional, oak is neutral, and purity is the priority. The wines are vibrant, layered, and capable of aging. Proof that Beaujolais can be both joyful and profound.
