About this wine

Capensis 2018 blends Chardonnay from several high-altitude vineyards across the Western Cape, including Fijnbosch, showcasing cool-climate precision and depth. Aromas of waxy lemon, pineapple, lime cordial, grilled nuts and wet stone lead to a palate of concentrated citrus and stone fruit wrapped in vibrant acidity and a saline, mineral finish. Ageing in French oak for around ten months (a proportion new) adds texture and subtle vanilla without heaviness. This is one of the Cape’s benchmark Chardonnays, built to age gracefully for a decade or more.

Bright lemon-gold with green highlights.

In the nose

Lemon curd, lime zest, baked apple and pineapple with almond, vanilla pod and struck-flint minerality.

On the palate

Full-bodied yet tightly coiled, with layered citrus and stone fruit, vibrant acidity, creamy mid-palate and a long, saline, nut-tinged finish.

Capensis

Capensis is a high-end Chardonnay project in South Africa, focused on cool, elevated vineyard sites across the Western Cape. Inspired by great white Burgundy, the wines combine ripe stone fruit, subtle reduction and restrained oak with vibrant acidity and mineral precision. The result is a refined, age-worthy style that has quickly earned international acclaim.
