About this wine

Sourced from high-density vineyards in the upper Greve valley, Capogatto blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grown on galestro and sandstone soils. The 2017 vintage, warm and dry, delivers generous blackcurrant, plum and dark cherry fruit with cedar, tobacco and graphite notes. The wine is vinified in stainless steel and aged around 18–20 months in small French oak barrels, mostly new, then bottled without filtration. It is a modern yet terroir-expressive Tuscan red with significant ageing potential.

Tasting Note

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (93/100) praises the 2017 Capogatto for its dense black fruit, spice and polished tannins, calling it a concentrated, well-structured wine that remains graceful despite the hot year.

In the glass

Deep, opaque ruby-purple.

In the nose

Cassis, ripe blackberry and plum with cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite and sweet baking spice.

On the palate

Full-bodied, dense fruit core, finely grained oak tannins and a long, savoury, mineral-lined finish.

Poggio Scalette

Poggio Scalette is the personal project of Vittorio Fiore, one of Tuscany’s most respected wine thinkers. High-altitude vineyards and meticulous Sangiovese selections produce wines of purity, tension and understated power. The style is firmly classical: bright red fruit, floral lift, savoury depth and a long, mineral finish, built to age with grace.
