About this wine

Prapò, in Serralunga d’Alba, is known for producing some of the most powerful Barolo, and Ceretto’s 2016 is a textbook example. The wine shows dark plum, blackberry and black cherry fruit with hints of liquorice, spice and crushed stone. The palate is full and fleshy, yet the tannins are super-fine and long, giving a sense of suaveness rather than heaviness. It is a quintessential “red-meat Barolo” that will age gracefully, but already offers impressive depth and complexity.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate emphasises dark fruit, power and classic Serralunga structure, while JR highlights a brooding, spicy nose, stony notes and an elegant, lithe palate with intense but very fine tannins and great length.

In the glass

Deep garnet with a compact core.

In the nose

Dark plum, black cherry, liquorice, spice, wet stone.

On the palate

Powerful and full-bodied, with dense dark fruit, firm yet polished tannins and a long, savoury, mineral finish.

Ceretto

A modern but deeply rooted Langhe estate. Ceretto combines organic farming, thoughtful vineyard work, and a polished, contemporary style. Their Barolo and Barbaresco highlight purity of fruit, clean lines, and precise tannins. While modern in feel, the wines stay grounded in place, reflecting some of the most important sites in the region.
