About this wine

Lavantureux’s Vaudésir comes from steep, south/south-west facing Grand Cru slopes above the town of Chablis, where Kimmeridgian limestone and optimal exposure produce some of the region’s most complete wines. Fermentation is in stainless steel to preserve tension, followed by 10–14 months’ maturation with roughly 80% in barrels (mostly 3–5 years old, a small proportion new) and 20% in tank, bringing both breadth and precision. The 2019 is a rich, concentrated vintage, yet the domaine’s touch keeps the wine taut, savoury and deeply mineral rather than simply opulent.

Tasting Note

Frédéric Lagarrigue describes a very rich, fresh nose layered with almond, hay, hazelnut and smoke, evolving toward exotic citrus, ripe stone fruit, caramel, elderflower and a cool menthol note. The palate is powerful yet finely balanced, combining ripe yellow-fruit flesh with iodine-tinged salinity and well-integrated oak, giving a long, complex and gastronomic finish.

In the glass

Bright, intense lemon-gold with slow, viscous legs.

In the nose

Yellow plum, baked apple, almond cream, hay, flint and light smoke, with hints of yuzu, kumquat and acacia.

On the palate

Broad and layered, with ripe stone fruit and citrus wrapped in savoury oak spice and marked by a firm, iodine-saline spine; long, mouth-coating, with a lingering chalky bitterness.

Domaine Roland Lavantureux

Domaine Roland Lavantureux is a benchmark family estate in Chablis, known for precise, terroir-driven Chardonnay rooted in classic vinification. Farming key sites such as Vaudésir and Vauprin, the domaine favours clarity, minerality and balance over overt oak influence. The wines show crystalline citrus, saline tension and excellent aging potential, capturing Chablis in its most authentic form.
