About this wine

Clos Mogador is one of Priorat’s founding “clos” estates, blending Garnacha, Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet from steep llicorella (slate) slopes around Gratallops. The 2010 vintage delivers a deep purplish colour and intense aromas of blackberry and black cherry, roasted oak, pencil lead and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate it is full-bodied and concentrated yet remarkably poised, with dense fruit, savoury mineral notes, vibrant acidity and long, fine tannins. This is a reference-point Priorat that has already gained complexity but still has many years ahead.

Tasting Note

Decanter/Wine Advocate-style notes: rich plum and black cherry with cacao, sweet spice and Mediterranean herbs; velvety texture, great depth and a warm, very long, complex finish.

In the glass

Deep, almost opaque purplish ruby.

In the nose

Blackberry and black cherry with roasted oak, pencil-lead minerality and pine/thyme-like Mediterranean scrub.

On the palate

Full-bodied, dense and warm; concentrated dark fruit, savoury slate minerality, firm but ripe tannins and a long, powerful, spicy finish.

Clos Mogador

Clos Mogador, founded by René Barbier, is one of the founding estates of modern Priorat. Old-vine Garnacha, Carignan and international varieties grown on steep llicorella slate give intense, mineral-driven wines. The style is concentrated and profound, yet increasingly focused on freshness and terroir transparency.
