About this wine

Prenelle is Clos de la Bonnette’s Côte-Rôtie from two organically farmed parcels on the mica-schist slopes of Tupin-Semons, in the southern sector of the appellation. Here old-clone Serine Syrah is worked entirely by hand on narrow terraces, yielding a wine that marries vivid raspberry and blackcurrant fruit with violet, pepper, forest floor and cocoa notes. The palate is concentrated but beautifully detailed: fine, firm tannins, bright acidity and a distinctly mineral, savoury finish give it the classic Côte-Rôtie profile of power in a filigree frame. Previous vintages such as 2019 have attracted high critical praise, with scores up to 95/100 from major publications, underlining the ambition and quality of this tiny estate.

Tasting Note

For the 2019 vintage, Decanter’s review (94/100) underlines black fruits, baking spice, fennel, bay, a fleshy mid-palate and ultra-fine tannins, noting both immediate charm and the capacity to evolve gracefully over a decade or more.

In the glass

Deep ruby-purple with a bright, youthful rim.

In the nose

Perfumed raspberry and blackcurrant, violet, black pepper, hints of undergrowth and dark chocolate.

On the palate

Medium-bodied but intense, with juicy dark fruit, fine yet firm tannins, fresh acidity and a long, mineral, slightly smoky finish.

Domaine Clos de la Bonnette

A small, committed estate working steep terraces in Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie. Domaine Clos de la Bonnette farms organically and vinifies with restraint to preserve fruit purity and site character. Viognier shows freshness and texture without heaviness; Syrah is floral, supple, and mineral. Authentic, artisanal Rhône with real finesse.
