About this wine

Les Mazaux comes from a tiny 40-are Chardonnay parcel in Villeneuve-Renneville, a Premier Cru village in the southern Côte des Blancs. The wine is deliberately vinified without malolactic conversion, allowing its naturally bright acidity and mineral character to remain intact. Ageing in tank rather than oak further keeps the focus on fruit and terroir, while a low Extra Brut dosage adds very little sweetness. Production is limited to around 2,000 bottles, resulting in a precise and distinctive Blanc de Blancs combining citrus and yellow fruit with brioche, toast and a long chalky finish.

Tasting Note

Critics describe a tonic, silky, mineral and long Champagne with a complex spectrum of citrus, brioche, yellow fruit and toasted notes; Gault&Millau awarded 92/100 and highlights its powerful yet elegant chalky texture.

In the glass

Bright pale gold with a fine, persistent mousse.

In the nose

Citrus, ripe yellow fruit, brioche and subtle toasted notes.

On the palate

Tonic and silky, with vivid acidity, chalky texture and a long mineral finish.

Crété-Chamberlin

Crété-Chamberlin is run by siblings Mathieu and Blandine Crété, the fifteenth generation of a winegrowing family whose roots date to 1683. Re-established in its present form in 2020, the domaine works around eight hectares spread across 84 parcels and 11 villages, producing precise Champagnes that highlight individual villages, vineyards and terroirs.
