About this wine

Hermannshöhle is widely regarded as one of Germany’s greatest dry Riesling sites, and the 2021 vintage appears especially classical and precise. The wine is placed at the top of the Dönnhoff range, with clarity, restraint and fine acidity. Dönnhoff’s general production approach of hand harvesting, rapid pressing and spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel and large cask is central to preserving that character. The result is a profound, ageworthy white for top-level seafood and white-meat dishes.

Tasting Note

Commentary on the 2021 range emphasizes great clarity, tension and mineral cut, all of which fit Hermannshöhle’s grand-cru profile.

In the glass

Pale lemon with green flashes. This is a style-consistent inference.

In the nose

Citrus, stone fruit and slate-driven minerality. This aromatic profile is consistent with the site and vintage commentary.

On the palate

Tense and aristocratic, with incisive acidity, layered citrus fruit and deep mineral persistence.

Dönnhoff

Dönnhoff is a benchmark estate in Germany’s Nahe region, producing some of the finest Rieslings in the world. The wines are celebrated for their precision, purity and strong sense of terroir, ranging from bone-dry Grosses Gewächs to noble sweet styles. Across the range, they combine crystalline fruit, vibrant acidity and exceptional aging potential.
