About this wine

Sourced from very old, ungrafted Listán Blanco vines planted at 900–1,100 m altitude on the slopes around Santiago del Teide, Benje Blanco is one of Envínate’s most “volcanic” wines. The 2024 vintage was fermented with wild yeasts, with around half the wine ageing under flor in concrete tanks and the rest in used 228 L barrels on the lees, before blending and bottling. It’s extremely pale and slightly hazy, offering citrus and green apple with intense smoky, ashy and saline notes. The palate is lean, electric and salty, perfect for seafood and island cuisine.

Tasting Note

WA characterises Benje Blanco as a complex, high-tense wine with very light colour, flinty and smoky aromas, citrus and green fruit and a sharp, mineral palate driven by acidity and volcanic character.

In the glass

Very pale straw, almost water-white, lightly cloudy.

In the nose

Lemon zest, green apple skin, sea spray, smoke and volcanic ash.

On the palate

Laser-sharp and saline, with citrus and green fruit, a touch of nuttiness from flor and a long, salty, mouth-watering finish.

Envínate

Envínate is a collective of four friends making wines in Ribeira Sacra, Tenerife, Almansa and beyond, always from distinctive, often marginal Atlantic terroirs. They work organically, harvest by hand and vinify with minimal intervention to let each site speak – think whole bunches, neutral vessels and very little makeup. The wines are vibrant, herbal, salty and incredibly drinkable, beloved by sommeliers worldwide.
