About this wine

Benje Tinto 2023 blends mostly Listán Prieto with about 9% Listán Blanco and a touch of Tintilla from high-altitude vineyards around Santiago del Teide. In this warm, dry year, the team adjusted by using softer extraction and shorter macerations; the wine fermented with native yeasts and matured in a mix of concrete and old barrels. Despite the warmth of the vintage, the wine is airy and perfumed, showing red cherry, flowers, smoke and volcanic earth. The palate is fresh and refined, with fine-grained tannins and a long, savoury finish.

Tasting Note

Luis Gutiérrez (WA) describes the 2023 Benje as floral, aromatic and expressive, with good freshness despite the warm year, fine-boned structure and harmonious, smoky, volcanic character.

In the glass

Pale ruby with a translucent core.

In the nose

Red cherry, raspberry, dried flowers, smoke and volcanic stone.

On the palate

Juicy but taut, with crunchy red fruit, very fine tannins and a long, savoury, smoky-mineral finish.

Envínate

Envínate is a collective of four friends making wines in Ribeira Sacra, Tenerife, Almansa and beyond, always from distinctive, often marginal Atlantic terroirs. They work organically, harvest by hand and vinify with minimal intervention to let each site speak – think whole bunches, neutral vessels and very little makeup. The wines are vibrant, herbal, salty and incredibly drinkable, beloved by sommeliers worldwide.
