About this wine

Flor de Pingus is sourced from old, biodynamically farmed Tempranillo vines around La Horra and vinified with the same care as Pingus itself. The 2017 shows beautifully pure dark cherry and blackberry fruit, subtle baking spices, graphite and a hint of balsamic complexity. The palate is medium+ to full-bodied with ripe but firm tannins, fresh acidity and a seamless, elegant feel despite the concentration. It’s a serious, age-worthy Ribera that remains highly drinkable in its youth.

Luis Gutiérrez / Wine Advocate & JS: ripe black fruit and spice with a savoury, mineral edge; medium-bodied, fine-grained tannins and a long, balanced, fresh finish.

In the glass

Deep ruby with a bright rim and good viscosity.

In the nose

Dark cherry, blackberry and plum with spice, graphite and a gentle balsamic/herbal lift.

On the palate

Medium+ body, concentrated but poised dark fruit, fine tannins, lively acidity and a long, mineral-tinged, savoury finish.

Flor de Pingus

Dominio de Pingus is Peter Sisseck’s cult Ribera del Duero estate, and Flor de Pingus is its more “accessible” sibling. Old Tempranillo vines, low yields and biodynamic farming produce wines of tremendous density, energy and precision. Even Flor shows a remarkable combination of power, freshness and fine tannic structure.
