About this wine

This cuvée comes from 45-year-old Caíño Tinto vines close to the coast, on granitic soils that give a cool, spicy profile. Fermented with indigenous yeasts, the wine ages for about 12 months in large, used 750 L barrels, then spends three months in bottle cages submerged 30 metres under the sea, a signature touch that adds further nuance. 2020 shows a pale colour but complex aromatics: red berries, flowers, spice and a distinct Atlantic savouriness. The palate is light- to medium-bodied, with fine, firm tannins and a long, elegant finish.

Tasting Note

The Wine Advocate compares 2020 Goliardo A Telleira Caíño to a red Burgundy: perfumed and floral on the nose, with an austere, fine-boned palate, clean red fruit and very fine tannins leading to an elegant, lingering finish.

In the glass

Very light, translucent ruby.

In the nose

Red cherry, cranberry, rose petals, white pepper and a salty, coastal note.

On the palate

Delicate and taut, with bright red fruit, very fine tannins and a long, savoury, mineral finish.

Forjas del Salné

Forjas del Salnés, founded by Rodrigo Méndez with help from Raúl Pérez, focuses on old-vine Albariño and traditional red varieties in the Salnés valley. Many vines are ungrafted and close to the Atlantic, yielding intensely saline, textural whites and delicate, herbal reds. The style is artisanal and low-intervention, highlighting the coastal, granite terroirs of classic Rías Baixas.
