About this wine

The Falletto vineyard is Bruno Giacosa’s home estate in Serralunga d’Alba, and this 2005 captures its power and depth in a beautifully resolved frame. With time in bottle, primary fruit has given way to aromas of dried cherry, rose, leather, porcini and sweet spices. The palate is still structured but silky, with savoury red fruit, earthy nuances and lingering balsamic and mineral notes. This is classic, traditionally raised Barolo at full maturity, ideal for drinking now with decanting.

Tasting Note

Reviewers describe a big, dramatic Barolo showing all the power of Serralunga: deep cherry and plum fruit, rose and tar, with a broad, structured palate whose tannins have now melted into a long, savoury, complex finish.

In the glass

Brick-tinged garnet with an orange rim.

In the nose

Dried cherry, rose, leather, undergrowth, tobacco and sweet spice.

On the palate

Mature, savoury and layered, with resolved tannins, sweet–sour red fruit and earthy, truffley complexity.

Bruno Giacosa

One of Piemonte’s greats. Bruno Giacosa is known for precision, elegance, and an almost obsessive eye for detail. His Barolo and Barbaresco show finesse over power and remain benchmarks for purity and balance.
