About this wine

Laurent Fournier has been a key figure in the “Aligoteurs” movement, proving how serious Aligoté can be when farmed organically and treated like a great terroir white. Cuvée Saint-Urbain comes from carefully selected parcels on marl and stony soils, where old vines give concentrated juice. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged on lees in a combination of tank and large, neutral barrels, it delivers lemon, green plum and white-flower notes over a distinctly mineral core. The palate is both taut and glycerol, with a touch of lees-derived creaminess that never obscures the chalky finish. It’s ideal with oysters, fried fish, tempura or goat’s cheese.

Tasting Note

The domaine describes its old-vine Aligotés as floral and mineral wines for gastronomy, capable of ageing, with low yields and a focus on expressing terroir rather than simple fruit.

In the glass

Pale straw with green glints and fine legs.

In the nose

Lemon zest, green apple and white flowers with a hint of crushed stone and light herbal notes.

On the palate

Racy and precise, combining citrus and tart orchard fruit with a saline, stony finish and a touch of lees creaminess.

Jean Fournier

Based in Marsannay, Domaine Jean Fournier is one of the key names behind the appellation’s rising reputation. The estate is organically certified and often works with a light touch in the cellar to highlight juicy, red-fruited Pinot and vibrant Aligoté. Across the range – from Bourgogne to top Marsannay lieux-dits – the wines combine freshness, structure and a distinctly savoury, terroir-led profile.
