About this wine

Champ Forey Vieilles Vignes comes from a 0.5-ha plot planted in 1921 and 1945 on stony comb-slope debris over an old riverbed in Marsannay. The blend is mostly Aligoté “doré” with small fractions of Melon de Bourgogne and Pinot Beurot, farmed organically and harvested by hand. The fruit is pressed as whole bunches over three to five hours without sulphur or other additives, then clarified at cold temperatures and fermented with native yeasts in 600-L barrels, before ageing 12 months in demi-muids (no new oak) and a further 4–6 months in tank. The wine offers layered citrus, stone-fruit and floral notes over chalk, smoke and a subtle nuttiness, with a long, saline, gastronomic finish. It’s a benchmark Aligoté that can age for many years.

Tasting Note

The domaine describes Champ Forey as a floral and mineral Aligoté destined for fine dining, with low yields and a capacity to “defy time”, increasingly poured on top tables around the world.

In the glass

Bright straw-gold with green highlights and fine legs.

In the nose

Lemon curd and white peach with hawthorn, chalk and a touch of almond and smoke.

On the palate

Dense yet precise, combining ripe citrus and stone-fruit with a creamy, leesy texture and a long, saline, mouth-watering finish.

Jean Fournier

Based in Marsannay, Domaine Jean Fournier is one of the key names behind the appellation’s rising reputation. The estate is organically certified and often works with a light touch in the cellar to highlight juicy, red-fruited Pinot and vibrant Aligoté. Across the range – from Bourgogne to top Marsannay lieux-dits – the wines combine freshness, structure and a distinctly savoury, terroir-led profile.
