About this wine

Cuvée Saint-Urbain Blanc comes from organically farmed parcels in Marsannay planted mainly to Chardonnay with some Pinot Blanc. The grapes are hand-picked, gently pressed as whole bunches without additives, then fermented with native yeasts in 600-L demi-muids, with about 10–15% new wood, followed by several months’ élevage in tank. The style, as described for the 2022 vintage, shows ripe stone-fruit (peach, apricot) and floral notes on the nose, with a rich, onctuous attack and a long, fresh, slightly minty finish. The 2023 should follow that template, offering both immediate charm and the ability to age a few years.

Tasting Note

Critics note aromas of ripe peach and apricot, a rich and creamy palate and a long, almost menthol-fresh finish for Marsannay Cuvée Saint-Urbain Blanc.

In the glass

Clear straw-gold with medium intensity.

In the nose

Stone-fruit (peach, apricot), white flowers and gentle oak over a chalky, mineral base.

On the palate

Rounded and creamy, yet lifted by bright acidity and a cool, saline, slightly mentholated finish.

Jean Fournier

Based in Marsannay, Domaine Jean Fournier is one of the key names behind the appellation’s rising reputation. The estate is organically certified and often works with a light touch in the cellar to highlight juicy, red-fruited Pinot and vibrant Aligoté. Across the range – from Bourgogne to top Marsannay lieux-dits – the wines combine freshness, structure and a distinctly savoury, terroir-led profile.
