About this wine

Les Longeroies is a prime site in Marsannay with complex marl and limestone soils; in fact, it has been approved for promotion to premier-cru status. Jean Fournier’s organically farmed Pinot vines here give low yields and concentrated fruit. The wine shows black cherry and ripe raspberry aromas, with floral and herbal nuances and a stony undertone. On the palate it is medium-plus in body with a compact, mineral core and long, slightly saline finish. 2021 is more classical and taut; 2023 will be somewhat riper and more generous, but both share the same terroir-driven spine.

Tasting Note

Commentary on Trois Terres (which includes Les Longeroies) and on the domaine’s Marsannay reds highlights dark fruits, fine structure and length, with Clos du Roy and Longeroies singled out as among the finest wines of the appellation.

In the glass

Medium-deep ruby with garnet hints as it ages.

In the nose

Black cherry and dark raspberry with violet, herbs and a flinty, stony note.

On the palate

Firmly structured and mineral, with concentrated red/black fruit, energetic acidity and a long, savoury finish.

Jean Fournier

Based in Marsannay, Domaine Jean Fournier is one of the key names behind the appellation’s rising reputation. The estate is organically certified and often works with a light touch in the cellar to highlight juicy, red-fruited Pinot and vibrant Aligoté. Across the range – from Bourgogne to top Marsannay lieux-dits – the wines combine freshness, structure and a distinctly savoury, terroir-led profile.
