About this wine

Better known for his micro-cuvées in Burgundy, Jérémy Recchione crafts this Dolcetto in the Piedmont village of Capriata d’Orba on clay-limestone soils. Cheesemasterss describe a ruby-coloured wine with elegant aromas of cherry, redcurrant and light spice, aged nine months in a mix of stainless steel and Burgundy barrels and bottled in a tiny 1,000-bottle run. The style is deliberately light, fine and fresh rather than rustic, with moderate alcohol, lowish tannin and bright fruit – a Dolcetto that drinks almost like a cru Beaujolais, perfect slightly chilled with grilled meats, Mediterranean dishes or charcuterie.

Tasting Note

Critics: ruby robe; elegant cherry, redcurrant and gentle spice on the nose; fine, fresh palate with delicate tannins and great drinkability after nine months’ élevage in inox and Burgundy barrels.

In the glass

Bright, light ruby.

In the nose

Cherry, redcurrant, subtle spice, floral lift.

On the palate

Fresh, juicy and low-tannin, with a silky, easy finish.

Jeremy Recchione

Jérémy Recchione is one of a new generation of micro-producers in Piedmont, approaching Nebbiolo and Dolcetto with a Burgundy-influenced sensitivity. Farming is careful and small scale, and winemaking favours finesse, bright fruit and freshness over sheer extract. The results are detailed, refined Langhe wines with a strong artisanal feel.

Vinification

From Dolcetto on clay-limestone at Capriata d’Orba, vinified “Burgundy-style” with short maceration, then aged around nine months in a mix of stainless-steel tanks and used Burgundy barrels before bottling.
