About this wine

La Coursière comes primarily from steep granitic vineyards around Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône and Malleval, close to some of Condrieu’s most celebrated sites. Direct pressing and strict cold settling keep the must clean and fresh before fermentation takes place entirely in seasoned oak. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations occur in barrel, followed by extended élevage in 225 and 500 litre vessels. Exotic fruit, orchard fruit, jasmine and chamomile sit over a creamy texture, while fresh acidity and delicate bitterness prevent the wine from becoming heavy.

Tasting Note

Critics describe lychee, orchard fruit, jasmine, chamomile and vanilla, with a rich but lively attack and a long finish shaped by fresh acidity and fine bitters.

In the glass

Bright golden yellow.

In the nose

Lychee, apricot, orchard fruit, jasmine, chamomile and subtle vanilla.

On the palate

Rich and silky yet fresh, with ripe Viognier fruit, creamy texture, fine acidity and an elegant bitter lift on the finish.

Julien Merlin

A rising independent winemaker based in the Northern Rhône, Julien Merlin established his domaine after gaining experience with Julien Pilon and working in New Zealand. His small-production Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and regional wines emphasise purity, balance and precise expressions of their terroir.
