About this wine

Le Chemin de Fer is the white counterpart to Le Nordique, produced entirely from Marsanne grown within Saint-Joseph. The fruit comes from the domaine’s northern Rhône holdings around Malleval, Serrières and Chavanay, where granite-dominated soils naturally provide freshness and mineral definition. Extended barrel ageing develops Marsanne’s characteristic orchard-fruit, floral and nutty character without excessive oak flavour. The palate is rounded and textural but finishes with enough freshness and savoury minerality to remain highly gastronomic.

Tasting Note

The wine combines pear and yellow fruit with white flowers, almond and subtle waxy notes, carried by a broad but fresh and mineral palate.

In the glass

Bright straw-gold.

In the nose

Pear, yellow apple, white flowers, almond and subtle beeswax.

On the palate

Broad and rounded, with ripe orchard fruit, gentle nutty complexity and a clean mineral finish.

Julien Merlin

A rising independent winemaker based in the Northern Rhône, Julien Merlin established his domaine after gaining experience with Julien Pilon and working in New Zealand. His small-production Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and regional wines emphasise purity, balance and precise expressions of their terroir.
