About this wine

This Barolo comes from a high-lying vineyard at approximately 540 metres in Monforte d’Alba, where low-fertility, sandy soils with strong marine influence produce naturally small yields. Lara Rocchetti and Luisa Sala approach Nebbiolo with exceptional delicacy, using gravity rather than pumps and gentle daily cap management rather than aggressive extraction. A long maceration develops structure gradually, while large Austrian oak preserves perfume and fruit without imposing obvious wood flavour. The result is a distinctly graceful interpretation of Monforte: aromatic, generous and surprisingly accessible, yet firmly rooted in traditional Barolo structure.

Tasting Note

The domaine describes the wine as exceptionally drinkable and approachable, with gentle tannins and generous fruit, reflecting the unusually high, low-yielding sandy site at the edge of Monforte.

In the glass

Transparent garnet-red with ruby highlights.

In the nose

Red cherry, rose, wild strawberry, dried herbs and fine spice with a subtle earthy-mineral undertone.

On the palate

Elegant and flowing, with pure red fruit, finely grained tannins, fresh acidity and a long, savoury finish.

Lalù

Lalù is a small, highly regarded Piedmont estate founded by Lara and Luisa in 2019, with its first Barolo fruit coming from Le Coste in Monforte d’Alba and additional Barbera from Bussia. The style is precise, graceful and quietly ambitious, with a focus on Nebbiolo and Barbera that highlights perfume, texture and vineyard clarity rather than extraction. It’s one of those young Langhe names that feels genuinely artisanal, but already very serious.

Nebbiolo is fermented as roughly half whole berries and half destemmed fruit in a 25 hl open-top vat with gentle daily cap management and 30–50 days of maceration, then aged for 24 months in Austrian oak and 3 months in concrete.
