About this wine

“Elsa” comes from Filippo Rizzo’s remote, organically farmed vineyards in central Sicily and is conceived as a special selection of his best grapes and parcels. The blend is mostly Nerello Mascalese with Frappato and Nero d’Avola, grown on a mix of clay, sand and limestone at around 430 m altitude. Grapes macerate between one week and two months depending on variety, then the wine rests for about two years in cement and a further year in bottle before release, yielding a deep, savoury Sicilian red with wild berries, dried herbs, earth and subtle spice. On the palate it’s structured, with pronounced but ripe tannins, good acidity and impressive length.
