About this wine

Latour-Giraud is one of the rare domaines to bottle a red Meursault 1er Cru from Les Caillerets, a high-calcaire site better known for white. The 2023 shows explosive red berry fruit with lifted spice and a chalky, mouth-watering finish. The palate is medium-bodied but concentrated, combining generosity of fruit with firm but fine-grained tannins. This is more about elegance and mineral drive than sheer weight, and it will reward 6–10 years in the cellar. Pair with refined dishes such as roast pigeon, veal or porcini.

Tasting Note

Morris highlights an exuberant bouquet of red berries, a generous core of sweet strawberry fruit and fresh acidity, noting that the 2023 Caillerets Rouge is intensely fruited yet remains balanced and refreshing.

In the glass

Bright ruby with purple nuances, moderate intensity.

In the nose

Crushed raspberries, wild strawberries, red cherry, hints of rose and chalk.

On the palate

Juicy, red-fruited and vibrant with fine tannins, savoury spice and a long, mineral, slightly saline finish.

Latour-Giraud

Latour-Giraud is a classic Meursault domaine, known for serious, age-worthy whites from top village and premier cru sites such as Genevrières and Bouchères. The style is generous yet controlled: ripe fruit and creamy textures balanced by real drive, length and a fine line of acidity. Long lees aging and quality oak add complexity without smothering the wines’ underlying stony character; their reds from Pommard provide a savoury, structured counterpoint.
