About this wine

Cuvée Carmen is Latour-Giraud’s flagship village Pommard, blended from several parcels to express the appellation’s depth and structure. The 2022 opens on dark cherries, blackberries and a hint of spice, with a subtle nutty, cherry-kernel character. On the palate it is medium-bodied but firm, with grippy tannins and fresh acidity that frame the ripe fruit. This is not a flashy wine but a serious, traditional Pommard that will really come into its own after a few years in bottle and will drink well for more than a decade.

Tasting Note

Morris highlights dark fruit with a slightly austere frame and a sound, classic Pommard structure, suggesting it will need time to soften but should give lots of pleasure in due course.

In the glass

Deep ruby.

In the nose

Black cherry, blackberry, plum skin, dried herbs, hints of cocoa and cherry kernel.

On the palate

Medium-bodied, dark-fruited and firm with robust tannins, lively acidity and a savoury, slightly earthy finish.

Latour-Giraud

Latour-Giraud is a classic Meursault domaine, known for serious, age-worthy whites from top village and premier cru sites such as Genevrières and Bouchères. The style is generous yet controlled: ripe fruit and creamy textures balanced by real drive, length and a fine line of acidity. Long lees aging and quality oak add complexity without smothering the wines’ underlying stony character; their reds from Pommard provide a savoury, structured counterpoint.
