About this wine

Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva 2012 is the estate’s emblematic white Reserva, made mainly from Viura with a small proportion of Malvasía. The wine spends around six years in old American oak barrels with regular rackings, followed by long bottle ageing, developing signature notes of mushroom, cellar dust, dried citrus and nuts over a taut, saline backbone. The 2012 vintage is described as warm and dry yet still vibrant, delivering impressive concentration without heaviness. This is a contemplative, food-driven white that pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, rich fish and aged cheeses.

Tasting Note

Gutiérrez highlights marked mushroom and cellar notes with vibrant freshness, noting that the 2012 is more energetic than some warmer vintages and will drink well over the coming decade.

In the glass

Deep golden yellow with amber reflections.

In the nose

Mushroom, toasted hazelnut, beeswax, dried lemon peel and gentle oxidative notes.

On the palate

Textured and savoury with bright acidity, layers of nutty, citrus and saline flavours and a long, slightly smoky finish.

Lopez de Heredia vina Tondonia

López de Heredia is a legendary traditionalist, known for releasing wines only when they’re ready after exceptionally long aging. Both whites and reds from Viña Tondonia and other estates show a unique, savoury complexity with oxidative, nutty and honeyed nuances alongside delicate fruit. They are uncompromising, utterly distinctive Riojas with a devoted following.
