About this wine

Viña Tondonia Reserva Tinto 2011 is a Tempranillo-based blend matured for extended periods in old American oak, followed by long bottle ageing in the bodega’s labyrinthine cellars. The 2011 vintage is noted for greater ripeness and concentration, giving darker fruit and more muscle while preserving the finesse that defines Tondonia. Expect aromas of ripe red and black berries, tobacco, leather and warm earth, with a structured but elegant palate and persistent, savoury finish. This is a serious, ageworthy Reserva that drinks beautifully now but will continue to evolve.

Tasting Note

Gutiérrez describes the 2011 as darker and riper with a rounder palate and dusty tannins, powerful yet still displaying the finesse of Tondonia, with more “muscle” compared to the textbook 2010.

Lopez de Heredia vina Tondonia

López de Heredia is a legendary traditionalist, known for releasing wines only when they’re ready after exceptionally long aging. Both whites and reds from Viña Tondonia and other estates show a unique, savoury complexity with oxidative, nutty and honeyed nuances alongside delicate fruit. They are uncompromising, utterly distinctive Riojas with a devoted following.
